Today’s tip is brought to you by contractor, Paul Hamtil (Hamtil Construction, LLC):

After working in the home remodeling industry for more than 14 years, I have grown to love and appreciate the unique qualities which are inherent with home remodeling projects.  As a business owner, I have to wear many hats which span from salesperson, marketer, coach, counselor, financial advisor, craftsman, and designer.  The ability to craft a successful project by navigating through the development and execution process with a client is always a challenge but very rewarding.  In short, the greatest reward of home improvement is to help a client to shape and build a great space which they love and will enjoy for years to come.

As we partner with our clients on projects, the service we provide extends beyond the project.  One way we try to add value and maintain a relationship with our clients is to keep in touch with newsletters and social media.  Not simply to promote ourselves, but to deliver helpful tips and information to them that is interesting and relevant to their home and lives.  Keeping in touch ensures that we are fresh on their mind when they or someone they know is looking for a contractor.  As a quick example, we recently had a fan of our Facebook page speak up on our behalf.  A friend made a post on her wall which mentioned that she needed a referral for a contractor.  Because we were present, suggesting us was the first idea that she had!  Her friend was able to quickly look at our Facebook page and see the portfolio of work which we have completed, then promptly called us!

We also added an app to our page as well which enables us to allow anyone to sign up for our newsletter directly from the page.  Since we use Constant Contact, they offer a “join my list” app which can be easily added to a fan page and will update subscribers to your email list.  Other email campaign services such as Benchmark and Mail Chimp offer similar signup apps.

It does take time and effort, but creating opportunities to be helpful and present with clients has delivered results, and a lot of happy clients to boot.
