We caught up with Chas from Chas’ Crazy Creations to ask her about her DIY experience!

Where are you from?
Originally from Minnesota, my family moved to Colorado when I was 14. I am currently in Fort Collins, Colorado.

Is DIYing your full time job?
I wish, maybe someday. I also direct the dance program at Mountain Kids here in town, and being a mom to 2 awesome kids!

What’s your earliest DIY memory?
My mom said I have always been creating things, but my earliest memory – maybe a salt dough dinosaur for 1 st grade.

What is your DIY motto?
Everyone Can Do It!

Why do you DIY?
Oh gosh, there are so many reasons. It fills my cup, I get the satisfaction that I did it myself, and kind of another motto of mine – It’s gotta be made into something or it’s gone. I have inherited things or been given things and I don’t want them to sit in a box, so what do I do? I make them into
something I can enjoy.

What project stands out in your head and why?
I would say my light up canvas art pieces. I’m just a mom, wife, dance teacher who loves to create things. When I made my first few light up canvas art pieces (one for each of my kids, and one for myself) I decided to share them on Hometalk in case others might be interested. I had no idea the path that this simple project would take me down. I have made so many friends from one little idea, and it fills my heart!

What is your biggest DIY fail? What did you learn from it?
Well one that I can remember was doing my first chalk painting piece and the next step was to wax. The directions said to coat, and then wipe dry. Well I treated it like paint and I painted on the wax and left it, the next day I came to wipe it off and it had dried on. I hadn’t spent a lot on the piece so I contemplated letting it go or trying again. I challenged myself to try again. I sanded, re-painted, and did the wax the right way and it turned out great. What did I learn, never give up, and you can always fix it!

What do you like to do when you aren’t DIYing?
Spend time with my family, dancing & performing, watching movies, traveling, & hiking and being outside.

Tell us something that might surprise us about you?
I have been dancing since I was 5 and have a degree in dance, I love Halloween, I’m a kid at heart, & I’m new to blogging, and I have over 100 solar lights in my yard (mostly in things I’ve made).

What advice would you give to a DIYer who is just getting started?
You Can Do It!!! Pick something that inspires you, do some research, give it a go, don’t give up, and share it with others.

What are your 3 #rideordie DIY supplies (supplies you just can’t live without)?
My hot glue gun, Mod Podge, and Paint
